How the Testicular Cancer Association began
On April 22 of 2003 our founder Cheryl Fried's son Adam was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer. Adam was only 18 years old and looking forward to his future after finishing high school.
Adam spent the rest of the school year in a chemotherapy centre. During the months that followed Adam told his mother a story of when he was in Grade 10 and his testicle swelled. He continued to say that he thought his testicle was growing and was too embarrassed to say anything. Adam had no idea that testicular cancer was beginning to grow. Adam had never heard of Testicular Cancer nor had his family.
Throughout the long hours of chemotherapy Adam had a dream of educating other young men about the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer. Adam's dream was to go into schools and teach young men not to be afraid to tell someone if they suspected a problem in their testicles. Adam never had the chance to complete his dream. Just 7 short months later Adam died on November 9, 2003.
After Adams death his mother Cheryl Fried vowed to make Adams dream come true and with the help of friends and family The Canadian Testicular Cancer Association was formed.
