TCTCA Public Education Program
View our recent Public Service Announcement.
The Check 'em campaign in our schools is the organization's major education initiative.
Part of our educational program is to provide a silicone TSE Model (two lumps in each testicle) Testicular Cancer Campaign Materials on CD, and brochures for future teaching purposes.
If you are interested in our CHECK 'EM program in your region or our educational kits please contact us at info@tctca.org or call 519-342-2562.
The TCTCA has undertaken local fundraising events such as casino nights and golf tournaments to fund the start-up of campaign development and raise community awareness. Such events, along with the support of sponsors and various funding programs from the private sector, have largely contributed to the establishment of a multi-phase approach to awareness and the underlying market analysis.
 |
We call this approach The "Check 'Em" Testicular Cancer Awareness Campaign. All 3 phases of the campaign have been realized in the Waterloo Region of Southwestern Ontario where TCTCA was originally conceived. As a fledgling advocacy group, the campaign gradually evolved and was launched in the spring of 2008

| PHASE I |
| High School Student Awareness |
|
In PHASE I, High School Student Awareness, our Media and Public Affairs Representative, Cheryl Perry, shares her personal experience with the both male and female student audience-usually in a school assembly forum. Following her testimonial chronicling the affects of testicular cancer on her son, a nurse from the local Public Health Unit delivers a slide presentation stressing the importance of adopting a regular testicular self exam (TSE) by the young men in our community. |

The effectiveness of this part of the campaign is measured strategically with a pre-test and post-test comparison which consistently demonstrates, in our experience, a significant increase in knowledge and expressed, behavioral intention (TSE) on the part of the male youth audience.
A teaching kit composed of a lesson plan, silicone testicles model and videos (CD) of a sample testimonial and presentation is left with the physical education department at each school for future use in health classes. The message of "why is it an issue?" and "what can teens do about it?"

In the fall of 2008, a mass media campaign was launched to promote PHASE II, Community-Wide Awareness. For the most effective impact in this phase, we have chosen the use of advertising: on billboards; transit shelters; through a public service announcement (TV commercial) and our website (tctca.org).
The bus shelter and billboard ads are rated among our most effective marketing tools in this part of the campaign. Marketing studies point to this type of media reaching 98% of the population. |

Next Steps
Now that the pilot launch of the campaign has proved to be so effective and efficient, TCTCA is moving forward with its mandate. Of course, as we move forward, our campaign materials are being made available to interested groups across Canada on request. It is our hope, at the TCTCA, that the continuation of this well planned and multi-phase "Check 'Em" Testicular Cancer Awareness Campaign is favorably accepted by your approval process. If you are interested in our CHECK 'EM program in your region or our educational kits please contact us at info@tctca.org or call 519-342-2562.
